Abstract

The increased presence of Latinx migrant womxn in immigration detention centers reflects the colonial, racialized, gendered, and capitalist nature of the punishing business in the United States. For Latinx migrant womxn, trauma from painful encounters with immigration detention may compound with suffering related to colonialism, imperialism, militarism, and racial capitalism. Grounded in the emancipatory frameworks of abolition feminism and liberation psychology, this article offers multi-level critical reflection strategies to support therapists in their efforts to resist the violent and oppressive nature of the immigration industrial complex and prison industrial complex.
