A Message from the TASH Executive Director to the RPSD Readership

Since 1975, TASH has been a progressive voice to advance the body of knowledge about policies and practices that benefit people with disabilities, especially those with the most significant support needs. TASH strongly supports evidence-based practice: The idea that the programs, practices and policies that aim to benefit people with disabilities are rooted in scientific evidence. We need to engage in practices that actually work. We continue to call on practitioners and policymakers to look to the research — the evidence — to inform their decision-making so that we can discard outdated practices and replace them with more effective ones that are grounded in research. TASH’s fidelity to evidence-based practice is more important than ever as our society faces ongoing threats of mis- and disinformation among the extremes of the political spectrum and during this ongoing pandemic. We need to be clear: There is no such thing as “alternate facts” but there is such a thing as evidence-based practice validated by rigorous scientific research. Let’s start with one timely, basic fact: COVID-19 vaccines save lives.
