Closure to the Special Issue ‘Phase Change, Interphase Coupling, and Multiphase Transport in Porous Structures'

Multiphase flows and phase change phenomena are often encountered in many engineering systems. Multiphase flows refer to the interactive flow of distinct phases and each phase discriminated by common interfaces in a channel represents a mass or volume of matter. Multiphase flows can occur in a single-component or multicomponent system. Understanding fundamentals and mechanisms of multiphase transport and phase change phenomena is continuously needed for developing the relevant technology of engineering applications. Therefore, this Special Issue (SI), named “Phase Change, Interphase Coupling, and Multiphase Transport in Porous Structures”, was devoted to presenting recent frontier and progress research in multiphase flow and phase change phenomena covering microscale, nanoscale, and macroscale research topics from all over the world. Since this Special Issue was initially opened on 15th November 2021, the Guest Editorial Board received submissions from across with globe and after an extensive and rigorous review process, approved 17 papers for publication. The authors presented innovative ideas on phenomenological understanding, modeling, numerical simulations, as well as new experiments and experimental methods. Furthermore, it should be noted that industry researchers and practitioners were highly involved, which is beneficial to acquire a better understanding of current challenges in this area and establish bridges between different industries and disciplines.
