Kim Adams is a Humanities in the World postdoctoral fellow at the Pennsylvania State University Humanities Institute. Her book project, Building the Body Electric, follows the application of electricity to the human body in American literature and medicine from the Civil War to the Civil Rights era. She is invested in work that combines material history with theoretical stakes to evoke practical consequences.

Xan Chacko, Sushmita Chatterjee, Laura Foster, Brian Sabel, sam smiley, and Banu Subramaniam are members of a book group exploring the recent vegetal turn in academic and popular writing.

Tita Chico is a professor of English and faculty director of the Center for Literary and Comparative Studies at the University of Maryland. She is the author, most recently, of The Experimental Imagination: Literary Knowledge and Science in the British Enlightenment.

David R. Gruber is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His research spans the rhetoric of neuroscience, rhetoric and philosophy, and science communication. He is co-editor of The Routledge Handbook of Language and Science and has published numerous articles on materiality, rhetoric, and the neurosciences.

Victor Monnin is an associate researcher at the Archives Henri-Poincaré and an early-career historian of science specialized in the history of paleontology. After graduating from the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, he received his PhD from the University of Strasbourg in 2022. He is currently working on a book project based on his doctoral dissertation analyzing the history of nineteenth-century paleontology in colonial contexts. While teaching the humanities and French to undergraduates, he is also conducting research at the intersection of the histories of earth sciences, art, and technology.

Deirdre M. Smith holds a joint appointment as a lecturer of Museum Studies at the University of Pittsburgh and an assistant curator at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Her writing has appeared in Third Text, Art History, and Esse arts + opinions.
