ABSTRACT

Applying a quantile regression approach, this study examines the heterogeneous effects of information and communications technology (ICT) on tourism development, using data from Vietnam’s 63 provinces in 2010-2019. Basing itself on cluster analysis, the study confirms the role of education in exploiting ICT in local tourism development. The disparity in the impact of ICT on outcomes is also explained, noting several reasons: (i) there is a delay in the effect of ICT application, and (ii) various influences depend on types of ICT. The results show that low percentile of tourism revenue provinces benefit the most from overall improvement in the use of ICT, while e-government applications further stimulate tourism revenue in provinces at higher ones. This finding implies that ICT application strategies must be appropriate for the local tourism context and emphasizes the role of improvement in the quality of ICT education.

本研究采用分位数回归方法，使用 2010-2019 年越南 63 个省份的数据，检验了信息和通信技术 (ICT) 对旅游业发展的异质性影响。基于聚类分析，该研究证实了教育在利用信息通信技术促进当地旅游业发展方面的作用。还解释了 ICT 对结果影响的差异，并指出了几个原因：(i) ICT 应用的效果存在延迟，以及 (ii) 各种影响取决于 ICT 的类型。结果表明，旅游收入百分比较低的省份从 ICT 使用的整体改善中获益最多，而电子政务应用进一步刺激了较高百分比的省份的旅游收入。
