This work presents a review of the literature on the landscape of wastewater reuse and presents the challenges for the practice, especially in the context of Brazil. In Brazil, the effluent treatment rate is still low, which already presupposes a challenge in the practice of reuse. However, it is not the only one, the promotion of regulations capable of giving the necessary support to reuse, for the different modalities, while taking into account the local conditions, but without neglecting public health, institutional arrangements, effective economic instruments and the establishment of programs to improve public perception of reuse should be encouraged.
