Enhanced quality control procedure for in-situ timeseries of marine-meteorological data

This paper describes quality control procedures applied to marine-meteorological timeseries data. The entire quality control procedure consists of several steps varying from a simple range check test to a complex step of identifying outliers based on unsupervised classification. In contrast to the earlier quality control (QC) procedure, many improved QC tests have been included for internal consistency check, for shadowing of shortwave radiation, for identifying weather events using unsupervised classification. The timeseries data of marine-meteorological parameters obtained from buoys deployed by National Institute of Technology (NIOT) and ships with Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services-Real time Automatic Weather Stations (INCOIS-RAWS) setups are used to demonstrate the applicability and performance of the enhanced QC procedure.
