The dome of al-Bimaristan al-Nuri is regarded as the first muqarnas dome in Damascus. It is a unique example of a suspended muqarnas dome in the region. The 2D projection plane of the dome displays non-uniform cells, which has led researchers to assume that it was an experimental attempt to replicate a new architectural element. This study aims to deliver an in-depth 3D analysis of construction irregularities and deviations to examine the experimental nature of the design and execution. It provides a 3D workflow to document, analyze, and visualize a muqarnas dome. By exploring the geometrical properties and relations of the dome using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), the study presents geometrical corroboration of the in-situ adaptation of the dome.
