The effect of psychomotor intervention program on emotional competence and behaviour problems in children four to five years of age

Abstract

Psychomotor Intervention Program (PIP) is prescribed for children with behavioural problems and has been used to enhance motor competence. The study examined the effect of a PIP, on emotional competence (EC) and behaviour problems (BP) of children 4–5 years old, using Psychosocial Test Adjustment. Fifty eight children participated in the survey. Of these, 30 were assigned to the Experimental Group (EG) and participated in the PIP program. The other 28 children were assigned to the Control Group (CG) and did not participate in any intervention program. According to the results, children of the EG presented higher improvement on EC and BP decreased compared to those of the CG. PIP plays an important role in the child’s development and is recommended in schools and kindergartens. It is important to include PIP in the prescription within the Greek Health System, to provide additional support in traditional methods and treatments.
