Dynamic capabilities and value co-creation in higher education

ABSTRACT

The increased competition and the digital transformation process have produced significant pressure for universities. To support coping efforts, dynamic capabilities (DCs) and value co-creation capabilities (CCs) are essential. However, the relationship between these constructs is not clear in the literature. What is the relationship between DCs and CCs, and how do they contribute to the university’s value generation? This study’s objective is to analyze the relationship between DCs, CCs, and generated value (GV) in higher education. A survey among 360 university employees was analyzed with structural equation modeling. Our results suggest that the DCs precede the CCs and CCs influence the GV for the university. These results contribute to the understanding of the theoretical relationship between DCs, CCs, and GV in higher education. It also contributes to universities, orienting leaders, and managers to create, develop, and exploit university capabilities to generate value for stakeholders.
