Thermotactic Inorganic and Polymeric Coatings for the Buran Spaceplane

Abstract

It is shown that the level of properties of a heat-shielding tile made of superthin quartz fiber and a silicate thermotacting coating for it exceeds that achieved during the creation of the Space Shuttle. The types of thermotactic coatings for the nose fairing of steel brazed honeycomb panels, flexible heat-resistant felt, and internal surfaces of the payload compartment are considered. It has been shown for the first time that the use of sublimable moisture FP-5182 protective fluorocopolymer varnish made it possible to significantly increase the emissivity of the heat-resistant antioxidant slip coating of the nose cone made of a material of the carbon–carbon system at temperatures above 400°C.
