Variant rpoB alleles affect Vibrio vulnificus stress responses and cytotoxicity. RpoB S522L mutants have decreased hypo-osmolarity tolerance and survival. Rifampicin-resistant RpoB S522L Vibrio vulnificus has a hypervirulent phenotype.
