An Evaluation of the Effects of Adding Fenugreek to Broiler Chickens Infected with Coccidia

Abstract

This study evaluated physiological growth performance and cecal microbial populations in broilers infected with Coccidia after adding Fenugreek. A 160 unsexed Ross 308 were randomly assigned into two trails according to their coccidial infection and Fenugreek addition. The first group was fed their basal diet as a control group (N = 40), and the second group (N = 40) was provided with a basal diet and extra (3 kg/ton) Fenugreek. The remaining 80 birds were divided into two treatment groups. Forty birds infected with Coccidia didn’t have Fenugreek, and another 40 birds infected with Coccidia had Fenugreek addition. FI, BW, FCR, carcass, internal organs and dressing percentage were calculated. Total protein, albumin, cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, urea, cecal microbial count, mortality rate, intestinal lesion scoring and small intestine length were measured. Fenugreek supplements to the broiler diet showed higher BW, FI and better FCR with infected or non-infected broilers. Checks had heavier internal organ parts than the control group. Furthermore, Fenugreek reduced abdominal fat weight and blood measurements. Additionally, it promotes the small intestine’s length, reducing lesion scores and coccidian egg accounts. Therefore, adding Fenugreek to broiler feed improves their performance. Ultimately, Fenugreek can replace or partially replace anticoccidial drugs in poultry production.
