Abstract

The American signal crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus (Dana, 1852) has been found for the first time in Lake Zaprudnoe of the Saimaa Canal system between Lake Saimaa (Finland) and Vyborg Bay (Russia). The Saimaa Canal is part of a large lake–river network connecting the waters of the Gulf of Finland and Lake Ladoga. This allows us to expect a wide distribution of P. leniusculus not only in the water bodies of Leningrad oblast, but also in northwestern Russia. The captured part of the population included nine individuals. The sex ratio in the population was significantly biased towards males: 8♂ and 1♀.
