Synthesis of a Composite Containing Sialon Based on Aluminum Ferrosilicon and Nanosized Microsilica in a Combustion Regime

A composite containing sialon (β-sialon) and nitride phases (β-Si3N4, Si2N2O) is prepared by self-propagating high temperature synthesis from a powder mixture of aluminum ferrosilicon and microsilica. The effect of microsilica on nitriding aluminum ferrosilicon, the phase composition of nitrided products, and the combustion temperature is studied. The powder mixture composition required for preparing material with a maximum content of sialon phase in a combustion regime is determined.
