The Effect of the Structure of Heterocyclic Monomers on the Heat Resistance of Epoxy Adhesives

Abstract

The most important indicators among the set of properties of epoxy adhesives are their heat resistance and preservation of the level of the properties of adhesion characteristics at elevated temperatures. The possibility of affecting these indicators by varying (replacing) functional heterocyclic groups in derivatives of benzimidazoles during the preparation of epoxy adhesive compositions is considered. It is shown that replacing an oxirane cycle by a thiirane cycle provides an increase in the glass transition point by 45–52°C and preservation of a high level of adhesion strength at 150°C which is 3- to 3.5-fold higher than in the diglycidyl analogue.
