Extraction of Rare-Earth Elements from Chloride and Nitrate Solutions in Multicomponent Systems with Di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric Acid

Abstract

The extraction of rare-earth elements (REEs) from chloride (0.01 M HCl + 0.1 M NaCl) and nitrate (0.01 M HNO3 + 0.1 M NaNO3) solutions in ternary hexane–isopropanol–water systems with the use of di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) as an extragent is studied. It is shown that the extractability of rare-earth elements improves with increasing atomic number, as is typical for the extraction systems with D2EHPA. It is established that the use of a di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid–caprylic acid mixture improves the solubility of extractable compounds and the recovery of metals.
