Numerical and experimental study of two common types of fouled net panels in the ocean

In this paper, the hydrodynamic and surrounding flow field characteristics of fouled nets panel are studied based on numerical and experimental methods. The types of fouled nets panel are analyzed and be divided into shell aggregation fouled net and bio-accumulation fouled net according to the attachment location and morphological characteristics of contaminants. Physical models of each type of fouled nets panel are made manually for water tank experiments. The corresponding numerical simplified model was established using the large eddy simulation method for flow field simulation to calculate and analyze the hydrodynamics of the net, capture the subtle changes in the flow field caused by pollutants, quantify and analyze the permeability of each hydroid-fouled nets.
