The installed capacity of photovoltaic solar energy is on the rise, which will lead to significant amounts of end-of-life solar panels in the future. It is estimated that at least 60 million tons of solar panel waste will be generated by the year 2050. This waste may contain hazardous substances and improper disposal results in environmental pollution. Several countries have adopted standardized waste leaching regulations to assist in the management of this waste. This review addresses the environmental risks of photovoltaic panel waste.
