Clay/APTS/Fe3O4 Magnetic Nanoparticles—A Novel and Highly Efficient Catalyst for the Synthesis of 4H,5H-Pyrano[3,2-c]chromenes

Abstract

Dihydropyrano[3,2-c]chromene derivatives have been synthesized by the one-pot three-component reaction of various aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile, and 4-hydroxycoumarin in aqueous ethanol (1:1) in the presence of Clay/APTS/Fe3O4 (cloisite-Na+/3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane/Fe3O4) magnetic nanoparticles as a novel catalyst. The structure of all products was elucidated by their FT-IR and 1H NMR analysis. This one-pot three-component protocol provides an efficient improved pathway for the synthesis of chromenes in terms of short reaction times and simple experimental and workup procedures.
