This study provides a comprehensive analysis of research articles published in the field of hospitality management, specifically focusing on the physical environment and its impact on guest experiences. A systematic review approach was employed, and a total of 199 articles from five selected journals were included in the final sample. The content analysis of these articles revealed the use of various research methods, with surveys being the most employed. Surprisingly, only a small percentage of studies utilized experimental designs or qualitative approaches. The findings highlight the need for a wider range of research methods and more conceptual support in this area. Additionally, structural-equation modeling emerged as a popular analytical tool among the included articles. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of integrating different methods from other disciplines for future research in this field. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the current state of research on the physical environment in the hospitality context and suggests avenues for further exploration.
