Designing and assessing an innovative and evolving MBA curriculum in a mission centric way with benchmarking and stakeholder validation

In a competitive higher business education sector, the curriculum development and review process demand agility to match the evolving graduate attributes while meeting the institute's missions. Using a multiphase mix-method design, this experience sharing article presents the theoretical rationale of a six-layered, stackable framework to design innovative and evolving curricula for B-Schools in a mission-centric way with the participation of stakeholders in the validation process. Furthermore, ‘Benchmarking’ and ‘stakeholder validations' served as scaffolding to design an outcome-based successful curriculum that can influence the ‘assurance of learning’ of students and improve it continuously. The success of the curriculum and continuous improvement were tracked with rubrics to measure assurance of learning. The paper suggests a path to building a competitive advantage for a B school providing MBA courses by weaving a lean and differentiated approach with the curriculum design, development, and assessment processes to retain an innovative posture in the market while evolving to address growth and diversity. This framework makes the curriculum development process robust by removing uncertainties, ensuring coherent integration of knowledge and skills, and helping the institute build a competitive advantage while tracking and improving students' learning outcomes. Any B school can benefit by adopting this framework.
