Malaria is a serious infectious disease and remains one of the greatest public health burdens for humankind. In 2022, an estimated 249 million cases occurred worldwide. Of these, around 608,000 people died, with the majority of victims being children under five. Of Plasmodium species, Plasmodium falciparum has the highest impact on global health, causing most infections as well as the deadliest form of the disease (1). With growing drug resistance, basic research for the development of new drugs remains critical for global health.
