Rotationally resolved infrared spectra of helium solvated methyl fluoride in the C−H and C−F stretching bands reveal peaks with linewidths that span several orders of magnitude. Stark spectroscopy probes the dependence of rotational linewidth on field strength, to see if it is affected by the reduced gap between the rotational energy of methyl fluoride and the roton-gap of superfluid helium.
