The current study aimed to examine the differential association of alexithymia and rumination facets with binge drinking. Two-hundred and ninety-two university students participated in this cross-sectional study, and we analyzed the data of those who reported alcohol use in the past 30 days ( 247, 23.32). Self-report measures were used to assess the levels of alexithymia and rumination. Participants reported binge drinking in the past 30 days. Logistic regression analysis showed a significant positive association between the Difficulties in Identifying Feelings (DIF) component of alexithymia and binge drinking, but brooding – the maladaptive component of rumination – did not explain binge drinking in this sample. Our results draws the attention of investigating emotional processing and emotion regulation in relation to substance use.
