In the past two decades, aqueous two-phase systems (ATPSs) have been extensively proposed as a promising and environmentally friendly tool for the extraction, pre-concentration, separation, and recovery of synthetic dyes. Despite their growing popularity in the context of synthetic dyes, a comprehensive understanding of the real-world applications of ATPSs in this domain remains elusive. This review examines existing literature on the partitioning of synthetic dyes in ATPSs, focusing on an analytical approach. Through this critical examination, we identify and illuminate the current gaps, challenges, and prospects in the area to drive applications in the analytical scale.
