Halide solid electrolytes (SEs) are emerging candidates for solid state batteries owing to the combination of high ionic conductivity and superior oxidation stability. In this review, the state-of-the-art studies towards sodium-based halide SEs are comprehensively discussed, based on several successful examples. The discussion covers crystal structure, ionic conductivity, ion migration mechanism, and applications in practical sodium solid state batteries.
