A carbon capture and utilization strategy, especially the electrocatalytic CO reduction reaction (eCORR), is a promising option for achieving carbon neutrality and mitigating climate change. However, currently, the electricity employed for the eCORR is mainly derived from gray electricity, and it is often difficult to offset the carbon emissions from power generation of the eCORR, which cannot truly

Hypervirulent is known for its increased extracellular polysaccharide production. Biofilm matrices of hypervirulent have increased polysaccharide abundance and are uniquely susceptible to disruption by peptide bactenecin 7 (bac7 (1–35)). Here, using confocal microscopy, we show that polysaccharides within the biofilm matrix collapse following bac7 (1–35) treatment. This collapse led to the release

Stable G quadruplex formed in promoter region of oncogene RET in physiological solution conditions Cell Rep. Phys. Sci. (IF 8.9) Pub Date : 2024-03-13 Yipeng Zhang, Yubo Li, Wenxian Lan, Xiaodong Hu, Shaowen Yin, Zhijun Liu, Hongjuan Xue, Chunyang Cao
The promoter region of proto-oncogene has continuous guanine-rich regions I–V, which form G-quadruplex (G4) structures. Reported RET20T G4 in the regions II–V has parallel folding in potassium-ion solutions; however, this G4-DNA is not an ideal drug target, as its formation is limited to a low concentration potassium-ion solution. Here, we demonstrate that RET-21mer in the regions I–IV forms a mixed

Transcription factors (TFs) regulate gene expression by binding to specific DNA sequences and gating access to genes. Even when the binding of TFs and their cofactors to DNA is reversible, indicating a reversible control of gene expression, there is little knowledge about the molecular effect DNA has on TFs. Using single-molecule multiparameter fluorescence spectroscopy, molecular dynamics simulations

Increasing pyrolysis oil yields and decreasing energy consumption via thermal oxo-degradation of polyolefins Cell Rep. Phys. Sci. (IF 8.9) Pub Date : 2024-03-08 Jessica L. Brown, Robert C. Brown, Victor S. Cecon, Keith Vorst, Ryan G. Smith, Tannon J. Daugaard
Commercialization of pyrolysis of plastics in an inert atmosphere is challenging due to large thermal requirements. This study employs thermal oxo-degradation and demonstrates how oxygen supplied at modest equivalence ratios can both accelerate depolymerization and provide the enthalpy for pyrolysis without dramatically impacting desired product yields. The enthalpies for pyrolysis of high-density

Hard carbon anode for lithium-, sodium-, and potassium-ion batteries: Advancement and future perspective Cell Rep. Phys. Sci. (IF 8.9) Pub Date : 2024-02-29 Sreehari K. Saju, Shreyasi Chattopadhyay, Jianan Xu, Salma Alhashim, Atin Pramanik, Pulickel M. Ajayan
Due to its overall performance, hard carbon (HC) is a promising anode for rechargeable lithium-, sodium-, and potassium-ion batteries (LIBs, NIBs, KIBs). The microcrystalline structure morphology of HCs facilitates the alkali metal -ion uptake and fast ion intercalation and deintercalation throughout the pores with low-potential intercalation properties. However, the large-scale industrial application
