We pursued an understanding of 21 site supervisors’ perspectives on the focus of counseling supervision in integrated behavioral health settings. Presenting organizational and clinical viewpoints, site supervisors reported mentoring supervisees on administrative and interdisciplinary work along with process-oriented supervision practices.

The findings of the study included two key themes, Community of Learning and Opportunities for Reflection and Application, which revealed aspects of participant engagement and content delivery that enhanced school counseling site supervisors’ learning experiences.

Using a thematic analysis, we examined the reflections of N = 14 counselors-in-training (CIT) who co-led groups with Afghan refugees. Five themes related to cultural humility emerged from the data. The COVID-19 pandemic brought disruption to teaching and other aspects of workload in higher education. The current study sampled 126 counselor educators about workload, compassion satisfaction, burnout, and job satisfaction. Results indicated that faculty workload and administrative responsibilities increased for counselor educators during the pandemic without adequate compensation or support.

Our study examines the differential item functioning of the Counselor Competencies Scale—Revised (CCS-R) scores due to respondents’ gender, the type of evaluation, and a combination of these two variables using a large sample (N = 1614). Counselor educators (N = 205) were surveyed on their teaching philosophy, coverage of LGBTQ issues in counseling courses, participant characteristics, and LGBTQ clinical skill using web-based methods. Age, program type, and online learning environment were found to significantly and uniquely contribute to students’ satisfaction through a hierarchical regression analysis. A between-group, repeated-measures study compared sections of a career counseling course. One course used a flipped classroom design, while the other used a lecture. The flipped classroom yielded higher ratings of career counseling self-efficacy and active engagement among students. There were no differences in helping skills self-efficacy between the courses.

We surveyed 230 associate and full professors of counselor education about their perceptions of the promotion process to full professor and to identify factors that differentiated associate from full professors. Promotion criteria and standards varied based on the nature of participants’ universities, and both experience and journal article publications predicted full professor rank.

We used consensual qualitative research to explore eight counselor educators’ experience integrating neuroscience into counseling curriculum. Six domains, 18 categories, and 37 subcategories emerged from the data highlighting barriers, successes, and future trajectory of incorporating neuroscience consistently and ethically into counselor training.

This study examined the relationship between demands, resources, meaningful work, and burnout of counselors-in-training. The results of structural equation modeling indicated that demands and resources significantly predicted burnout of counselors-in-training, whereas meaningful work did not mediate the relationship between resources and burnout. Implications for counselor education are discussed.

We explored 12 doctoral students’ experiences with research and publication, including the editorial feedback process. Findings highlight the university's research climate/culture, the training strategies employed, critical learning experiences, support and resources, and doctoral students’ meaning-making of their experience. We utilized a correlational design to investigate the role of multicultural training, intellectual humility, and a quiet ego on predicting cultural humility in counselors-in-training. Moreover, we explored facets of intellectual humility and the quiet ego as predictors for domains of cultural humility and provide implications for counselor educators based on the findings.

Predictors for supervisee disclosure in supervision: A mediation model Counselor Education and Supervision Pub Date : 2022-04-11 Chi Li, Gulsah Kemer, Junfei Lu
With a sample of 222 supervisees, path analysis results revealed that supervisory role ambiguity significantly mediated the relationship between supervisory working alliance and supervisee's counseling-related disclosure in supervision. We discussed the implications for future supervision research and practices along with the limitations of the study.

In this study, we explored variation in religious value conflict navigation through a Q-sort procedure of strategies for reaching an affirming stance toward counseling lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) clients. Factor analysis of the correlation matrix revealed a five-factor solution accounting for 63% of the variance. We consider implications for counselor training and research

Using interpretative phenomenology analysis, this study explored the lived experiences of eight Latinx and Asian trainees. Four superordinate themes were identified: illuminating hegemonic structures, identity challenges, increasing competence through awareness, and varying connections. Implications related to cross-cultural counseling and counselor education and future research are discussed.
