Abstract
Polymer-colloid complexes (PCC) based on imidazolium surfactant containing a carbamate fragment, and a hexadecyl chain (IAC-16) and polyacrylic acid (PAA) were formed and characterized. Mixed systems have been studied at the varied amphiphile concentration, while PAA additive was kept constant at 1, 3, and 5 mM. The aggregation properties, phase behavior, particle size of the IAC-16/PAA binary systems were estimated by tensiometry, conductometry, fluorescence spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The PAA addition initiates the PCC formation at a concentration 20 times lower than for the individual IAC-16. DLS data showed that the hydrodynamic diameters of aggregates for the IAC-16/PAA binary systems are about 90–200 nm and do not depend on the PAA and surfactant concentration. It was found that electrostatic interactions are of key importance in the IAC-16/PAA systems.
