Process of Sintering Iron-Based Powder Materials Alloyed with Copper with Introduction of Various Plasticizers Into an Initial Charge

  • Published:
Metallurgist Aims and scope

In this work the influence of various plasticizers on sintering powder materials based upon iron alloyed with copper is studied. It is shown that introduction of plastifiers into powder mixtures increases relative density by 4–10%. Performance of thermal mixing has a favorable effect on relative density after sintering. A workpiece after sintering with “warm” mixing has a relative density of 90–94%. The greatest relative volumetric shrinkage of 6.5% is observed for specimens of the composition PZhRV 2.200.28 + 0.7 wt.% Br + 0.7 wt.% Cu + 1 w t.% s t. C u + 1 wt.% Al2O3 mixed in a paddle mixer in a warm regime. Shrinkage is almost absent in specimens of composition PZHRV 2.200.28 + 0.7 wt.% Br + 0.7 wt.% Cu + 1 wt.% st. Cu.
