Optimization of Adhesive Composition for Bonding Plywood

Abstract

A large number of factors, including the wood surface and the composition of an adhesive, influences the quality of adhesive bonding and the performance properties of adhesive wood products. Considering that there is a need for low-toxicity adhesive wood materials, one promising area is the unification of an adhesive formulation for various plants and the development of adhesives to decrease the toxicity of final products. The introduction of modifiers and fillers into the composition of adhesive resins for plywood allows one not only to decrease an amount of toxic substances, but also to increase the productivity of pressing equipment by accelerating the curing of an adhesive. The state and properties of urea–formaldehyde resins and their adhesives are studied in this work. It shows that there is a need to modify adhesive resins for plywood, which also decreases the cost of resources and the energy to produce glued wood materials. An adhesive composition developed. The test results and the conclusion are presented. The recommendations are given for the unification of adhesive formulation.
